Up and down in the past weeks

The last few weeks have been anything but according to plan for me. To be honest, it was a constant up and down.

The anticipation for the home World Cup in Lenzerheide was huge. The training sessions went well and I was confident and ready for top performances. But on Wednesday, two days before the short track, it happened: a stupid fall in training and the diagnosis of a ligament lesion in my left thumb.

At first I thought that a start would be impossible. But soon it became clear that we could make a start in Lenzerheide possible with a special splint and changes to the bike setup. The confidence was there again. But in the end the consequences of the crash were more complex than I had hoped. It was not possible for me to reach my best performance.

When results and victories become secondary

The following World Cup in Leogang quickly put into perspective how important results and the fight for victory are. The news of the tragic accident and the death of Gino Mäder hit me very hard and made the results take a back seat. The fact that I had to complain about a defective rear tire while I was in the lead in the XCO race and that I finished in 5th place in the end was secondary.

After I competed in the Road World Championships in Wetzikon last Sunday for training purposes, my focus is now on the upcoming World Cup in Val di Sole (Ita) next weekend. After that, a break is planned for the beginning of July. I will use the rest days to operate on the torn ligament in my thumb. After that, there are only six weeks left until the big season goal, the World Championships in Glasgow.
